He is known as El Silbón (meaning the man who whistles), due to his most bizarre characteristic: he produces a chilling whistling sound, and if it's heard nearby it denotes that he is far away, and if on the contrary it is heard far away it's a signal that El Silbón is very near. In the dark streets of the city of Puerto Cabello, Carabobo State, the sound of horses hooves clipping is often heard along with the noise of the wheels of a carriage. Those who have seen the carriage describe it as an old one pulled by energetic horses enveloped in flames. The elders of this place assure that this carriage appears when someone is about to die to take their soul to the depths of hell. Those who see it make it go away by making the sign of the cross and praying a Creed.

Through a pact with the devil, she turned into a disfigured beast. She has been spotted on top of the rooftops of the city while producing a cry similar to a hyena's. This was a commission I completed for a tattoo design. My customer requested that the mermaid be tattooed as well, and gave me creative freedom on the design. I chose to do a swallow tattoo for both its meaning and because it contrasted with the mermaid's sea nature. I did the lines with ink, but I used Prismacolor pencil for the rest. This is the line art I did in ink before I added the color.

A young woman from colonial times suffered deeply with unfulfilled love, pleaded with God to ease her suffering, and he transformed her into the tree. Her soul is said to still linger within, and laughter and love songs can be heard when people draw near.

Terrified as the devil fulfilled his part, he hid his wealth, baptized his children and vanished. Now, his restless spirit roams as Juan Machete, wielding a fiery machete and breathing fire, condemned to roam for tricking the devil.
