Venezuela's Headless Horseman, a legend that originated in 1812 during the Venezuelan War of Independence, is a tragic figure whose forbidden love led to his decapitation. Ever since his death, he is seen riding his horse during the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, searching for his beloved and his head.
