Juan Machete

Inktober 2018 - Venezuelan Myths. Drawing number 23. In the Venezuelan plains, Juan Francisco Ortiz forged a pact with the devil, trading his wife’s and children’s souls for vast riches. Terrified as the devil fulfilled his part, he hid his wealth, baptized his children and vanished. Now, his restless spirit roams as Juan Machete, wielding a fiery machete and breathing fire, condemned to roam for tricking the devil.
